EDCI515 Literacy Assessment
Literacy Assessment provides an advanced practical study into formative and summative reading and writing assessments and how to use the results of these assessments to determine the next teaching point, identify instructional strategies, and support the growth of each child as a reader and writer. Master's candidates will conduct action research projects testing efficacy and efficiency of a host of approaches grounded in research during the academic year. In preparation, candidates must have a tool kit of valid and practical assessments to provide pre-post innovation assessment and to monitor progress during the process. Overall assessment literacy will be explored including differences between formative and summative assessment, issues of validity and reliability, test bias, practical stafistics to enhance analysis, and the dangers associated with the misuse of assessments. content from this foundational course will be expanded and applied throughout the entire program in context.
