EDCI511 Research in Literacy Education
This course will focus on research in literacy. At the macro level, candidates will examine large scale meta-analysis of formal research and examine formal research studies published in peer-reviewed journals that meet the definition of experimental design. We will follow several of those studies into the popular press, showing how good research may be distorted or illuminated for public consumption. Candidates will employ critical thinking to reading and writing research using the lateral verification strategies to weed through mountains of information, misinformation, and distorted information. On a micro level, candidates will learn to employ the lenses of action research and indigenous research methods to practical problems in their own classrooms.
