EDCI572 Advanced Integrated Literacy III: Field Experience and Practicum
In this field experience, candidates work with their students and monitor students' ongoing literacy development using a data management system each candidate designed for this purpose. In Spring Term, this work continues with a special focus on strategically pruning assessments and routines as the data indicated evidence of mastery of the skills being taught. This is done on individual, small group, and whole class levels and is a critical part of becoming a responsive educator. Assessing learners, knowing when to teach a skill and when to stop are essential aspects of the teaching and learning cycle. By the close of this course, candidates will have completed all action research projects initiated including longitudinal research, prepared research briefs on those projects, selected the high and low points from that work, and developed a failure poster session from the intervention that failed. In addition, they will create a strategy to transfer data collected on the children they serve to next year's teacher, so all information can continue to support the child into the future.
