SCWK181 Trauma-Based Expressive Arts
This course introduces students to trauma-based expressive art practices in Social Work. The course is centered on concepts related to reflective practice of trauma, secondary trauma, vicarious traumatization, vicarious resilience, and post=traumatic growth through expressive arts theory and practice. Various forms of creative expression will be introduced and practices will be explored as an avenue to reflect, communicate, and/or transform feelings, thoughts, and ideas. Research has demonstrated that expressive arts approaches have helped to process and cope with emotional issues as well as facilitate self-awareness/understanding, emotional regulations, healing, and well-being. Culturally based arts experiences will be demonstrated and practiced throughout the course.
