HLTH245 Health Education

Health Education examines and teaches students how to provide health education to clients regarding relevant public health topics as defined by the Health People 2030 National Initiatives. Topics include sexual assault prevention, human trafficking, health communication, mental health, substance abuse prevention, chronic disease prevention, emergency preparedness, injury prevention, and more. The course provides students the opportunity to assess their own health using common assessment tools, such as MAPP, CHANGE, PACE-EH, and NACCHO. Students will gain the ability to obtain, interpret, and understand basic health information and apply that knowledge in the PERIE and SOAPIE process. Laboratory settings are used to simulate real-life stituations for health promotion and education. The course provides additional levels of cultural study and application to prepare students to work specifically with American Indian & Alaska Native populations as well as other diverse populations within the public health setting.
