HLTH184 HPP Practicum I
HPP Practicum I introduces students to the wide variety of careers available to health promotion. Topics include types of careers, training, skillsets, experiences, and practice settings, and ethics, confidentiality, privacy, legality, and HIPAA in the workplace. Each week students will meet as a group to discuss the practicum experience and work on professional skills. Activities include role playing activities, written assignments, group activities, guest presenters, field trips, creating a professional resume/CV, locating potential jobs in the Health Promotion field, and learning to locate scholarships and grants. There are 10 hours of practicum experience required. The student will spend a minimum of one (1) hour a week in the community setting. The course provides additional levels of cultural study and application to prepare the students to work specifically with American Indian & Alaska Native populations as well as other diverse populations within the Public Health setting.
