HLTH172 Exercise Prescription and Health

Exercise Prescription and Health introduces students to the fundamentals of aerobic exercise and resistance training related to health and fitness. Students learn about exercise health with a personal focus through didactic, labs, work in the gym, worksheets, discussion, and many other learning activities. Students will learn the basics of physical training and the designing of exercise programms for health and fitness in healthy individuals and for those at risk for chronic disease, throughout the lifespan. Students will learn how to analyze goals and asses current abilities of an individual, then design and integrate reasonable exercise training programs for health, fitness, and weight control. Laboratory settings are used to teach students in real-life settings the basics of physical training. The course provides additional levels of cultural study and application to prepare students to work specifically with American Indian and Alaska Native populations.
