LFSC474 Environmental Microbiology

The world around us is full of life, most of which is too small to be seen with the unaided eye. Environmental Microbiology will examine the microbes that inhabit non-animal habitats including; water, soil, rocks, ice, plants and dead organic material. These microbes live in extreme environments that are too hot, salty, dry or cold for other life to exist. They also live and thrive in neutral soil and water domains aiding in the natural processes of animal life for plant growth and organic decay. This class will examine the fascinating, micro-world of the environment through peer-reviewed publications, informative seminars, and investigative assignments.
