HLTH170 Introduction to Public Health

Introduction to Public Health provides each student with foundational knowledge of public health's historical contributions, ethical bases, key terms and concepts used in public health, and public health's system organization. The course incorporates into the dideactic and laboratory learning environments the social, behavioral, environmental, and biological factors which contribute to specific individual and community health outcomes. Laboratory settings are used to simulate real-life situations for health promotion, education, and management of chronic disease in a community setting. There are additional levels of cultural study and application to prepare students to work specifically with American Indian & Alaska Native populations as well as other diverse populations within the public health setting.
