EDCI529 Planning Reciprocity Through Mentorship/Leadership

Reciprocity is a central value of the Séliš (Salish), Ql̓ispé (Pend d’Oreille), & Ksanka (Kootenai) people. Practicing reciprocity means giving back to the community and individuals in kind what has been given to you. Candidates in the Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction Program will give back in a variety of ways. They may mentor a future teacher in a preservice preparation program, provide support for a colleague new to their school, grade level or setting, take on a student teacher, or engage in other field work in teacher preparation. They may select to share effective strategies they have learned and field tested through action research in their own classroom through professional presentations in their setting, or at district, state, or even national gatherings or conferences. They may select to publish and share their work and proven strategies via social media, blogs, or publications for parents, colleagues, community members, or scholars. And finally, they may choose to share within the community in cultural settings, language camps, and programs or working with individuals, groups, or even families across the community in fulfillment of their personal or professional obligation to give back.
