NSGD471 Health Disparities of Vulnerable Populations

Health Disparities of Vulnerable Populations focuses on health disparities that impact healthcare in vulnerable populations globally and in the United States. Students will explore factors in health disparities and the burden of disease and how it relates to quality and timely healthcare and the impact on life expectancy. Health literacy issues among vulnerable populations and how these issues affect overall healthcare are discussed. Various concepts and perspectives of providing culturally congruent nursing care are analyzed. Factors affecting vulnerable populations, such as stereotyping, prejudice, and discrimination, which may lead to substandard quality of care are examined.
