SCWK181 Trauma-Based Expressive Arts
Trauma-based Expressive Arts introduces students to trauma-based art practices in social work. The course is centered on concepts related to reflective practice of trauma, secondary trauma, vicarious traumatization, vicarious resilience, and post-traumatic growth through expressive arts theory and practice. Various forms of creative expression will be introduced and practices will be explored as an avenue to reflect, communicate, and/r transform feelings, thoughts, and ideas. Research has demonstrated that expressive art approaches have helped to process and cope with emotional issues as well as facilitate self-awareness/understanding, emotional regulation, healing, and well-being. Culturally-based arts experiences will be demonstrated and practiced throughout the course.
