SCID272 Introduction to the Science of Indigenous Health and Well-Being
Introduction to the Science of Indigenous Health and Well-Being will emphasize Indigenous Knowledge (IK) and Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK) as vibrant and valid scientific epistemiology that has been essential to Indigenous health and well-being since time immemorial. The course will examine the science of Indigenous Knowledge systems and the disruption of Indigenous Knowledge due to colonization, eugenics, historical trauma, land and loss, cultural and spiritual upheaval affecting the etiology of the health and well-being of Indigenous people. Western Science will also be explored in connection with Indigenous Health and Well-Being, examining biology physiology, psychology, ecology, botany, and geography.
