NRMG520 Issues in Tribal Natural Resource Management

Issues in Tribal Natural Resource Management reviews 20th and 21st century management of forest, wildlife, fisheries, water, and range resources on tribal lands and reserves and includes current examples of how tribal culture and values inform management of these resources. The course is designed to provide a solid understanding of the critical role of management of tribal natural resources for indigenous communities. Students focus on case studies and philosophical principles that compare management techniques derived from European based science with those derived from the cultural traditions and beliefs of Indigenous peoples and communities. Students will develop a knowledge base that assists them in improving communication and management coordination between Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities as well as governmental and non-governmental organizations.
