ENGL307 Research Writing for STEM

Research Writing for STEM serves students from all STEM-based academic departments. Students build on ENGL 203 by learning advanced ways to employ the scientific research process while utilizing information resources to find appropriate technical and research documents to formulate a research question and hypothesis, employ research methods, and write in a professional manner using the citation style for their field of study. The focus will include advanced practice in scientific literature reviews, primary versus secondary source analysis, audience analysis, and implementation of cultural awareness practices. Students will extract information and ddata from multiple sources, synthesize the information to make inferences, and write a 12-15 page scientific paper which will include the creation of visual representations of synthesized data that make material accessible to the audience. Like ENGL 203, the course will address the needs of individual disciplines including health and natural sciences. (Communication and Critical Thinking course)
