NASD400 Introduction to Indigenous Research Methodologies & Methods
Introduction to Indigenous Research Methodologies & Methods (IRM&M) introduces students to IRM&M and the concepts they focus on. These include cultural perspectives as they related to IRM&M as well as designing, conducting, and presenting academic research. These ways of knowing, being, and doing research are presented as being interdisciplinary, and understood to also relate to STEM fields. Included are exploration of the scholarly origins and purposes of Indigenous research, both historical and contemporary; current theories of Indigenous research, roles and responsibilities of an Indigenous researcher; oral and recorded traditions and sources of information; and other important issues that face Indigenous researchers, both now and in the future. The following such questions are emphasized: What do we mean by Indigenous Research Methodologies and Methods? What is Indigenous Research? Why do we do Indigenous Research?
