MAST134 Clinical Lab I

Clinical Lab I provides hands-on training of the procedures and skills necessary for assisting the physician. Specific competency simulations will include, but are not limited to, rooming the patient, collecting a health history, vital signs, specialty exams, sterilization, minor surgical procedures, surgical asepsis, growth charts and electrocardiograms (EKG). Students will demonstrate competency in procedures represented in the current Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA). Additional topics include venipuncture, capillary puncture, specimen collection and handling, identification of normal ranges, quality assurance, and quality control. Students will be further instructed in the use of an electronic health record system (EHR).
