EDUC125 Teaching STEM Practicum

Teaching STEM Practicum provides Secondary STEM Education majors with field experience. Students will take this course four times at 1 credit, for a total of 4 credits. These field experiences provide first and second year Secondary STEM Education majors with structured opportunities to observe the professional realities of middle and high school classrooms. Designed to transition students from the role of learner to observer, this course offers a window into the daily life of a secondary STEM educator. Students will be placed in local secondary schools to shadow experienced mentor teachers. The focus Teaching STEM Practicum is structured observation rather than instruction. Students will use specific protocols to document classroom management dynamics, instructional strategies, student engagement with STEM concepts, and the diverse needs of adolescent learners. These courser serve as critical career confirmation steps, allowing students to verify their aptitude for and commitment to the teaching profession before entering upper-division coursework.
