NRMG524 Tribal Sovereignty, Trust, and Policy

Tribal Sovereignty, Trust, and Policy examines the foundations of the contemporary relationship between Indian Nations, the United States government, and state governments. Particular attention is devoted to resource utilization issues, including the frameworks for determining regulatory authority and civil and criminal adjudicatory authority in Indian Country. Topics include the history of federal Indian policy, the doctrine of discovery, tribal sovereignty, tribal resource management evolution, the federal trust relationship, federal power in Indian affairs, tribal treaty rights, and related current issues in natural resources management.
