2018-2019 Catalog

ARTD163 Ceramic Arts Intermediate

Students taking a second quarter of ceramic arts will further explore the properties of clay and create more in-depth study of the method or methods of construction they prefer. They will also focus on surface treatment that included exploration of glazes. Students may choose one of 3 options for their pottery pieces that include either, solely hand built, solely pottery wheel or a 50/50 split between the two methods. The student will write, by the second week of class, at least 300-word rationale as to why they chose to take pottery for a second quarter. They must also define the goals they intend to work toward. This definition will explain what the student wants to learn. The student will then meet with the instructor so we can analyze together how this can be accomplished. The student will expand their previous learning to create at least 6 pottery pieces that will demonstrate their intermediate skills, express his/her understanding and personal interpretation of the medium.
