NASD 307 Native American Leaders after 1900
Native American Leaders After 1900 focuses on tribal leaders who faced the challenges encountered by their nations in the 20th century, after implementation of the reservation system; Challenges which included dwindling populations, confinement to rural areas on reservations, control by federal agents, altering of tribal enrollment criteria, and definition of who is an Indian person within the entanglement of federal, state, tribal and personal claim to identity. The leaders found within this course have fought to improve the lives of Indian people on local reservations and at the national level.
