MATH421 Higher Mathematics for Teachers II
Higher Mathematics for Teachers II will explore the transition from static algebraic models to dynamic systems through the study of Multivariable Calculus and Differential Equations. Designed specifically for future educators, the course emphasizes the "Change and Accumulation" thread of the secondary curriculum. Students will investigate rate-of-change models, vector fields, and optimization in multiple dimensions. A central theme is the development of mathematical modeling: taking a real-world phenomenon, expressing it through differential equations, and interpreting the results. The course also examines the historical development of these tools and their necessity in modern STEM careers.
