EDUC336 Secondary STEM Teaching Methodology

Secondary STEM Teaching Methodology is the capstone preparation for the student teaching experience. Designed for fourth-year Secondary STEM majors, this course demands the synthesis of content knowledge, educational theory, and cultural competence. The course escalates from understanding pedagogy to executing it at a professional level. Students will engage in unit design utilizing the backward design framework. Students will navigate the complexities of aligning rigid National and State Standards (NGSS, CCSS) with the flexible, holistic nature of Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK) and place-based education. This course reframes classroom management through an Indigenous lens of relationality and restorative justice. Students will learn to build classroom communities that value mutual respect and develop management plans that support diverse learners in high-stakes STEM environments (labs, field work, career).
