Career Services

Career Services assists current and potential students with career planning, gaining hands-on work experiences during their studies, preparing for employment, networking with potential employers, searching for jobs, writing cover letters and resumes, and developing interview skills. We offer online career preparation tools as well as one-on-one assistance. Career Services manages paid internship and Federal Work-Study programs and hosts career events, workshops, and presentations by organizations seeking to hire our graduates. Please visit the Career Services website at https://career.skc.edu/ for a complete list of services, tools, and resources.

Career Exploration

The Montana Career Information System (MTCIS) is an online tool that allows students to complete numerous assessments, explore careers, identify appropriate programs of study, and find scholarships and grants.

Career Preparation

Career Services offers one-on-one assistance with writing resumes and cover letters as well as preparing for job interviews. Students are encouraged to use BigInterview, a proven step-by-step system that combines expert video lessons and interactive practice tools designed to help students master their interview skills. The platform also provides resume and cover letter advice as well as a resume builder tool.

Job Search and Placement

Career Services can help students find and apply for internships, on-campus and seasonal jobs, and post-graduation employment opportunities. SKC uses Handshake, an online career services management platform, to coordinate on-campus employment as well as advertise jobs from tribal, local, state, and federal government agencies, corporations, and private entities. All students are strongly encouraged to activate their Handshake accounts and explore the exciting opportunities available locally and across the nation. Virtual career fairs and employment-related workshops are frequently offered through the platform as well.

Federal Work-Study Program

Career Services manages the Federal Work-Study Program that provides part-time jobs for students with financial need, allowing them to earn money to help pay education expenses. Please check Handshake for current openings. Most positions are filled at the beginning of the academic year, so students are encouraged to apply early.
