HIEP121 Medical Legal Aspects

Medical Legal Aspects introduces the basic laws, major ethical principles, legal issues and regulations that guide and protect the health care professional and patient. Students will demonstrate the understanding of HIPAA, legal scope of practice for the Medical Assistant, the effects of hereditary, cultural and environmental influences on behavior and decision making regarding professional ethics of the living, birth, beginning of life, death, dying and patient confidentiality. Cultural considerations of the Native population will be emphasized.
