ARTD255 Contemporary Native American Art History

Contemporary Indian Art History will give a brief history of art from different Indian tribal communities throughout the United States. It will also investigate and compare Indian tribes of neighboring countries and Indigenous contemporary art found in other parts of the world such as New Zealand and Australia. It will examine the fundamental relationships found in artifacts and traditional Indian art forms and how they relate to what is being created today by contemporary Indian Artists. Guest artists, videotapes, slides, disks and other visual guides will be used to provide important information to the understanding of contemporary Indian Art and the Artists that create the artwork.
