NURS355 Ethics and Issues
Contemporary nurses face complex professional issues everyday in the workplace. Appropriate and systematic responses to these issues is not easy nor well-studied. Ethical dilemmas, in particular, cause great angst among and between nurses. With the ever-increasing society’s diversity in beliefs about beginning of life, end of life, genetic testing, and medicine’s ability to prolong life, ethical dilemmas are increasing. With the increase in ethical dilemmas, it is imperative that nurses learn methodologies that facilitate systematic decision making and concurrently, reduce moral distress among nurses. This course will include student seminar discussions with other disciplines such as education and psychology for an interdisciplinary approach to ethical decision making.
