LFSC410 Introduction to Bioinformatics

This introductory course will familiarize students with basic methods and concepts in
bioinformatics with an emphasis on biological databases and molecular data analysis tools.
Topics include PubMed searches, primer design, in-silico gene cloning, protein and DNA
sequence analysis and homology searches, multiple sequence alignments, SNP analysis, gene
expression array interpretation, proteomics data analysis, protein structure modeling, and
protein network building. After completing the course, students will be able to navigate complex
biological databases and computational resources and extract the correct information to
evaluate relevant research questions.
