Health Science Studies Certificate of Completion

Certificate of Completion (52 credits)

The Health Science Studies Certificate of Completion is designed to provide coursework required to apply for admission to the Nursing Program. The Certificate of Completion contains all required prenursing coursework; please see the ASN Program Admission Requirements, for a list of prenursing required courses. Students receive academic advising through the Nursing and Life Sciences Department. Students in this program will also complete courses in the first year of the Bachelor of Science in Life Sciences and be able to  transfer into the that program. The Certificate of Completion also provides a strong pre-health sciences background for students who wish to begin their studies at Salish Kootenai College and then transfer to a health science program at another college or university. 

Students should consult with a program adviser to develop an academic plan based on their plans for application to the Nursing Program or another program.

Student Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the Certificate of Completion in Health Sciences, students will be able to:

  • Communicate scientific information in written and oral presentations.
  • Demonstrate understanding of essential concepts and theories of life sciences.
  • Solve quantitative problems in science using appropriate analyses.

Note: Completion of prerequisite courses does not guarantee acceptance to the Nursing Program. However, upon completion of the required courses, students are eligible to apply for acceptance to the Nursing Program by completing the Nursing Department application and entrance exam.
