SCLG 310 Intercultural Communications
To provide an overview of the study of communication and culture. Both cross-cultural (i.e., comparisons of communication across cultues; for example, how people in the U.S. communicate differently from people in Mexico) and intercultural (i.e., communication between members of different cultures; for example, how people from the U.S. and Mexico communicate when they interact with each other) aspects of communication will be examined. Intereththnic communication in the U.S. (e.g., communication between Japanese Americans and African Americans) also will be discussed. The focus will be upon understanding how we can improve the effectiveness of our intercultural communication, manage conflict successfully, and develop relationships with members of other groups.
