Business Management, Associate of Arts

Total Credits Associate of Arts: 90 credits

The Business Management Associate Degree offers students foundational coursework providing the skills necessary for the successful completion of upper division coursework. The Associate Degree curriculum focuses on general education, economics, accounting, marketing and management basics. Students receive experience in creating a business model and a marketing plan for a new or existing business.

Recommended Experiences for Employability Skills

The Business Department actively supports and supervises internships, job shadowing placements, service learning opportunities, and other work-related experiences for qualified students as they complete their academic study plan. Students must work with their advisers and accept personal responsibility for the planning of their approved coursework.

Career Opportunities

The business curriculum provides students with the essential business skills and knowledge necessary to achieve success in a wide variety of careers. Careers available to graduates include starting a new business or growing an existing one, employment with tribal enterprises in administrative and managerial positions, and program manager level positions with tribal governments and non-profit organizations.

Student Learning Outcomes

Following completion of the Associate’s Degree curriculum, students will be able to demonstrate knowledge of basic business principles by:

  • Applying financial and managerial accounting principles to new and existing businesses
  • Using marketing practices as a set of processes for creating, capturing, communicating, and delivering value to customers
  • Creating a business model for a new business
  • Communicating business concepts in a clear and concise manner
  • Utilizing information technology and software tools to solve business problems
  • Working effectively as part of a team

Note: Although the required classes don’t have to be taken exactly at the time specified, students must be aware that most of the classes are only offered in the quarter indicated below. Students must work with their advisers and accept personal responsibility for planning their course of study. For each course in both programs, a student must earn a "C" or better grade to progress to the next level.
