Career Services

Career Services

The Career Services staff assist current and potential students with career planning, gaining hands-on work experiences during their studies, preparing for employment, networking with potential employers, searching for jobs, writing cover letters and resumes, and developing interviewing skills. We offer one-on-one career counseling, manage paid internship and Federal Work-Study programs, and host career events, workshops, and presentations by organizations seeking to hire our graduates.

Career Planning

Career Services administers the Montana Career Information System (MTCIS). This online tool allows students to complete numerous assessments to explore which occupations best match their interests, skills, and lifestyle preferences. Students can also investigate industries, individual careers, and career options in the military as well as identify appropriate programs of study, learn about apprenticeships, and explore options for paying for school. MTCIS lists hundreds of scholarships and grants for every major.

Job Search and Placement

The Career Services staff help students with finding and applying for internships, on-campus and seasonal jobs, and post-graduation employment opportunities. Salish Kootenai College uses Handshake, an online career services management platform, to coordinate on-campus employment as well as advertise jobs from tribal, local, state, and federal government agencies, corporations, and private entities. All students are strongly encouraged to activate their accounts on Handshake and explore the hundreds of jobs and internships available locally and across the nation. Virtual career fairs and employment-related workshops are frequently offered through Handshake as well.

Federal Work-Study

Career Services manages the Federal Work-Study Program that provides part-time jobs for students with financial need, allowing them to earn money to help pay education expenses. The program encourages community service work and work related to the student's course of study. Most work-study positions are located on campus.
